When looking for someone to represent you and your community in any sort of government position you want to find a person who knows who you are and where your priorities lie. The Vancouver-Fairview riding gets this with Margaret MacDiarmid. Her career began working as a family physician for twenty-three years before running for any sort of office. This experience gave her time to meet all sorts of different people living in the area and helped her create a policy to listen first before finding the right solution. Whether the issues were to be in regards to a suit with class actions Canada or an environmental problem she is here to fight for her riding.
MacDiarmid started her political career advocating for everything from an EI family to recent citizens of Canada when she joined the British Columbia Medical Association. For her, it was a clear move from this to running as the Liberal candidate in the provincial election. She felt that there was more that she could do for those around her than just helping one patient at a time. She won the general provincial election in 2009 and was appointed as the Minister of Education and Minister Responsible for Early Learning and Literacy in June of the same year.
While her position focuses much of her work, MacDiarmid is actually passionate about many different issues affecting British Columbian residents. Health care has of course always been a priority of hers but she also gives as much time as possible to building a strong provincial economy, creating a workable infrastructure for the biggest cities, and supporting those in need. This means advocating for businesses that can compete with the top Ontario commercial real estate, working for additional funding for education, and making sure citizens are safe and well cared for.
The best possible representatives are those that will hear your issues and are accessible to their constituents. While MacDiarmid has her main office in Victoria, she still maintains a constituency office in Vancouver on West Broadway. You can visit this location if you have any questions or concerns that you would like her to know about. This could be regarding the economy with changes in interest rates with a mortgage company in Canada or could be about an issue just affecting your area of the city. There is no problem too big or small to bring to Margaret's attention.
Here at Margaret 4 Fairview we want to show you all that our MLA representative is doing with her time in office. While some people might seem very ambitious in the campaign stage you want to make sure that there is some follow through when they actually get elected. Margaret MacDiarmid is always taking the time to learn as much as she can about her province and strives to make a different. Sometimes this means getting some additional real estate training to help new homeowners and other times it's about using her healthcare knowledge to start us on the road to change. If you're wondering what she's currently focused on you should check back here often for updates.
